About Us

Secga is an enthusiastic amateur theatre company based at The Towers Theatre, Tettenhall College, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton.

The company produces three plays a year, performing at the historic Towers Theatre in October, April and July. Rehearsals are held at The Towers on Mondays and Thursdays at 7.30pm for approximately eight to ten weeks before each production with an occasional Sunday afternoon rehearsal added as the play draws nearer! Rehearsals take place on stage whenever possible.

Secga began life in 1968 in the Sedgley area, close to Wolverhampton. Its unusual name comes from the Anglo-Saxon for Sedgley, but appropriately also means 'one who tells'! The company has been based at various times at Sedgley Parish Hall, Colton Hills School and St Paul's Church; at the Beacon Centre for the Blind and The Mill Theatre, before settling at Tettenhall College in 2006.

The theatre itself dates back to around 1880 and was the brainchild of local eccentric Colonel Thomas Thorneycroft who had it added to the great hall of his family home, Tettenhall Towers. The Towers remained the home of the Thorneycroft family until 1943, when the house and grounds were sold to Tettenhall College, of which it still forms a part today.

Secga is always keen to welcome new members to the company. So if you fancy yourself as a bit of a thespian or would like to help out with the many backstage jobs which go into creating one of our productions, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you!
